Academia Barilla attempts to tell the story of the gastronomic miracle of Italy through the pages of “Come Mangiavamo Negli Anni ‘50”.
During the making of this publication, Academia Barilla gathered significant information from the rich cultural heritage of the Gastronomic Library, which uniquely boasts a collection of more than 7,500 volumes, some of which date back to the 16th century and that bring back the memories of social-gastronomic traditions in Italy during the 20th century.
Years in which the country, thanks to its own strength and inventiveness, ended with its difficult past to begin a new phase of growth and well-being.
A hundred page journey that describes a country in transformation, focusing on the relationship of Italians connection with food and their table customs. Recalling the most renowned recipes and the protagonist of an art that was exported through all of the world. The memoir also recalls images and curiosities of dishes and culinary customs depicted in cinematographic productions and in the first advertisements; the difference between the housewife of yesterday and the working women of today.
The publication also addresses the evolution of places: Italy’s autogrill (motorway restaurants), small storekeepers amid the grand distributions and finally concludes, with a list of professional Chefs and their list of restaurants.
